Your HVAC Should Be Working For You, Here’s How

TIP! Always make sure you are up-to-date about your HVAC unit. Get the brand, model name, and if you can you should get the maintenance history out.

It’s not easy to know what to do when you’re dealing with HVAC. To prevent the situation from becoming disastrous, it is worth any time spent to become familiar with the subject. This piece is meant to provide solid instruction on hiring proper HVAC contractors.

TIP! To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Before you do clean the coils and fan blades, always take the precaution of turning off all power to the unit.

Before contacting a repair service, do a short tour of the entire home. Make note of which rooms are cold and which are hot. This will help the repairman determine what the problem is.

TIP! Clean the condenser on your debris regularly. Debris quickly gathers here, even more so if there is a storm.

Before you hire an HVAC contractor, have some sort of idea of the work that needs to be done. It will be hard for a contractor to give you a price estimate over the phone if they have not seen your current system. Getting an estimate will be even more difficult if you cannot adequately describe the problem. Be sure to find this out ahead of time.

TIP! Clean the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan every spring. First, turn off the power so that nothing will move as you are working on it.

Before the summer you should clean out your condenser fan’s blades and coils. Except when cleaning the outside, turn the unit off when performing any type of maintenance. Take away all of the debris as well.

TIP! When choosing the area for placing an outdoor compressor device, place it in a shady area. The unit will operate more efficiently to cool your home if the intake air is cooler to begin with.

Make sure that you do not cover your outdoor components with grass clippings when you are trimming the grass. Try shooting the clippings away from it. Make sure you move around the unit and blow the leaves away from it while blowing your leaves.

TIP! Have your heating and cooling system inspected twice a year. Your system should be inspected in Spring and Fall.

You must keep your HVAC systems oil ports lubricated annually. A rubber or metal cap is typically placed over such ports. Buy an SAE 20 product that is lightweight, and then put no more than ten drops into the ports.

TIP! Research multiple contractors before choosing one. Inquire with the BBB and look elsewhere for other reviews from customers.

When your HVAC system fails during extreme hot or cold seasons, that can spell a disaster for anyone. However, with the right information, such disasters can be avoided. These tips will put you in the best possible position.
