Top Secrets To Achieving Amazing HVAC Success

TIP! Check out the system that you have before you call a professional. Write down the brand and the model and have all maintenance records on hand.

HVAC information has been sweeping the nation as more and more people are becoming interested in performing the maintenance and repairs themselves. However, it’s still a complicated subject. That isn’t true, though. This can be made easier with the following advice.

TIP! Clean the coils of your condenser fan each month. Before you clean the unit, be sure to turn off the power.

Before calling for help, know the system you have. Take a look at the system or the owner’s manual to find the name and model number. This information will be helpful to any contractor you hire to repair it.

TIP! Clean the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan every spring. Be sure to turn the power off first; you don’t want anything to move.

If you have units that are condensers outside of the home, keep them free of debris. Debris can pile up after a storm, bringing potential damage with it. It could overheat and cause a disaster with your unit.

TIP! Avoid showering your outdoor unit with grass clippings when you mow the lawn. Instead, make sure that the grass is shooting in the opposite direction.

Make certain that you clean your condenser when the weather begins to warm. Before you begin cleaning the unit, make sure that it is unplugged. Pull out each of the blades and clean them one by one.

TIP! If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. You will notice these ports have a rubber or metal cap covering them.

Make sure that you do not cover your outdoor components with grass clippings when you are trimming the grass. Aim your grass cuttings in a direction away from your unit. The same goes for when you blow leaves, so make sure your are careful when moving any debris in the vicinity of your HVAC devices.

TIP! When you are choosing a location for the outdoor compressor unit, it’s preferable to use a shaded area. This will limit the work that it has to do.

Look for shade when placing a compressor outdoors. The cooler air that the unit can suck in, the less work it will need to do to further cool the air.

Put outdoor condensers in the shade. It will help you save on your energy bill when you do this.

TIP! Install a programmable thermostat to save energy costs. Turning down the thermostat around 10 percent for 8 hours per day can give you a 10 percent savings using the programmable thermostat.

HVAC maintenance isn’t terribly difficult, especially if you have some helpful advice like that found in the tips above. It is really hard to learn about this without trying the above tips first, so keep that in mind. Keep learning and reading, and you will be prepared for whatever comes in the future!
