If your home’s HVAC system is not working properly, it can create a lot of stress on you as a homeowner. In addition to being costly for repairs, they also prevent you from feeling comfortable in your home. To keep trouble at bay, continue reading to learn some great preventative maintenance tips.
Before choosing a HVAC company find out what the company offers. This will make the quote process much easier. If you don’t have any idea, they will have trouble giving you any sort of quote. So, have this information ready.
Clean your fan and coils when the weather begins to warm. The power to the unit should be removed before you begin any maintenance, even cleaning. Clean off any leaves or debris from your external condenser unit.
Regularly remove debris from outside condenser units. Your HVAC system may run into problems after storms if it is surrounded by debris. The whole thing can overheat, causing major problems and possibly an enormous expense for you.
Avoid showering your outdoor unit with grass clippings when you mow the lawn. Shoot grass the other way. If you’re blowing leaves, this same problem can occur, so make sure you move around the unit and blow the leaves away from it.
If your fan condenser has oil ports, you must lubricate it once per year. You will see rubber or metal caps covering the ports. Put about ten drops or less of a good non-detergent SAE 20 oil into each port.
Do not let your house get dangerously hot. Expect an air conditioning unit to drop the temperature down 20 degrees within a short amount of time. If your house’s interior temperature hits 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you would only be able to cool it down just above 80 degrees. If humidity is high, this temp is still unsafe for people.
A well running HVAC is critical to keeping your home comfortable. If you do not maintain it properly, you may find that it breaks down. Avoid this by using the tips listed here.
