College is more than just “after high school”. It is where the entire world opens up to you, and you have many important, life-altering decisions to make. It’s important to take all factors into consideration and prepare yourself for whatever may come.
Bring a water bottle to school with you. Staying hydrated is important to your health and that can be hard when you are stuck in classrooms all day. This is particularly key if you have a few classes one right after the other and lack time to eat. Staying hydrated during the day can help keep you focused and on track. You can get more water from water fountains when necessary.
Eat breakfast before taking a test. A healthy snack can give you the vitamins that you need without making you feel groggy. Your stomach can really distract your attention from an exam. If you are not energized and are feeling hungry, you may not do as well on the test.
Get plenty of rest. Do not let your social life keep you from getting the sleep you need, and avoid spending entire nights on your homework. All-nighters will eventually catch up to you and affect your ability to concentrate.
In the first semester, get at least a general education requirement to get it over with. If there’s one class you’re really not looking forward to, but you need it to graduate, take it early so you can later focus on the classes you really like. You might not feel good about being a senior in a freshman packed class.
With these tips in mind, start figuring out the next steps to take to make your college experience everything you have ever wanted. College is a time in your life when you have to understand what things are all about.
