The Best Advice For Buying HVAC Equipment

TIP! Be aware of the type of system that is installed in your home prior to calling a contractor to fix it. Get information on the make and model, plus if you have information on the history of maintenance, that will help, too.

Anyone who has a HVAC unit in their house knows the importance of properly maintaining it. If it doesn’t work right, you could find it to be very expensive! Here are some great tips to help you begin understanding this important item in your home.

TIP! Go through your home before you call HVAC professional. Figure out which rooms feel hot and which feel cold.

Before selecting a HVAC repairman, know what you need done. It will be hard for a contractor to give you a price estimate over the phone if they have not seen your current system. They also won’t be able to offer you a quote if they don’t have a detailed idea of what you want done. It’s important to know this beforehand.

Fan Blades

TIP! Clean the debris on your condenser units. Things tend to pile up around these units, especially after storms come through, which could cause problems to your system.

Keep outside condenser fans running smoothly by cleaning fan blades and coils before the summer begins. Before you do clean the coils and fan blades, always take the precaution of turning off all power to the unit. Clean the outside of your condenser unit regularly.

TIP! When you cut the grass, make sure your mower isn’t tossing clippings toward your outdoor units. Direct the clippings away from the equipment.

Cover your unit when you are mowing the lawn. Direct the grass clippings in a direction away from the HVAC unit. If you’re blowing leaves, this same problem can occur, so make sure you move around the unit and blow the leaves away from it.

TIP! Leaves and debris can damage your system. When you see nearby trees shedding their leaves, clean the fan grill on your unit constantly.

HVAC units may suffer when leaves are falling off the trees. At least twice a week, you need to clean the grill of your fan. The fan must stay clear in order to function, and if it gets blocked, you will have to contend with problems.

TIP! You want to put the outdoor compressor device in a shaded area. When your unit takes in cool air, it takes less energy to tool the air, thus boosting efficiency.

Be sure to place your outdoor unit in a shady spot to maximize efficiency. This will help ensure that the AC is pulling in cooler air, reducing the amount of work it has to do and saving you money.

TIP! When it gets cold outside, the outdoor condenser unit should be turned off. If the temperature outside is less than 60ºF, be sure to turn off the unit so that you don’t damage it.

Now you should be better prepared to make sure your HVAC system runs well for a long time. You certainly don’t want it to break on you. Check these tips again to make sure your HVAC lasts a long time.
