Simple HVAC Strategies You Can’t Go On Without

TIP! Before calling someone to repair your system, make sure you know what kind of HVAC system you actually have. Take a look at the system or the owner’s manual to find the name and model number.

Letting your HVAC system fall into ruin is an incredibly foolish decision for any homeowner. You likely have an interest in discovering how to make your HVAC system work well for years to come. What follows is some great information to help you begin.

TIP! If you have some problems with the HVAC system, check out your home before calling a contractor. Note which of your rooms are hot and which are cold.

Know what work you want done before you select an HVAC contractor. It’s hard for these contractors to give phone estimates without seeing the current system you have. They need to come look at the unit. So, know this information in advance.

TIP! Clean your condenser’s fan blades and coils come spring. Prior to working on or cleaning the unit, be sure to turn off the power.

Clean the debris from outside units often. You don’t know when things are going to pile up, like right after it’s windy or rains, and that can ruin your system. Overheating may be the result if you don’t.

TIP! When you are cutting the grass, be sure not to cover your outdoor units with clippings. Have the grass shoot in the opposite direction.

Don’t let grass clippings pile up against your outdoor condenser. Get the grass shot away from your unit. This same tip applies when you are blowing fallen leaves around the yard. Grass and leaves pose a serious problem for the internal functioning of your unit.

TIP! When the trees are losing their leaves, your HVAC unit can suffer. Make sure the fan’s grill is cleaned often during the fall.

As the trees around your home lose leaves, it can cause your HVAC unit trouble. When you notice your trees shedding, frequently clean your unit’s fan grill. The fan needs unobstructed air flow, and if debris is blocking this air flow, then your system could suffer.

TIP! If you are choosing where to place your outdoor compressor device, try to put it in a place where there is plenty of shade. If your unit is sucking in cooler air, it will have less work to do to cool that air as it sends it inside which boosts efficiency.

Some fan condensers may contain oil parts, and if yours does, ensure it is lubricated at least once per year. You’ll find these ports are covered with a metal or rubber cap. Chose SAE 20 oil, which has been proven to be the most effective.

TIP! Make sure your HVAC unit is in the shade. This will help you save on your energy bill.

If possible, put your HVAC in a shaded area if it is outside. When your unit sucks in cooler air, then much less is required to cool it further, which saves you money on energy bills.

TIP! Your HVAC system should be checked a few times a year. Your system should be inspected in Spring and Fall.

Maintaining your system is critical. When a heating and cooling system fails, it can cost thousands. Following the tips above should help you keep the system in good working order, and find a suitable replacement if it becomes necessary.
