Simple HVAC Strategies You Can’t Go On Without

TIP! Know what type of system you currently have before calling someone to fix it. Look for the model and brand number.

It’s good to have a properly working HVAC system in your home. It’s a great feeling when you come in from a sweltering day, and it’s cool inside, or you come in from a very blustery winter day to the warmth of the inside. But, it can change fast if you have an HVAC emergency. The following tips will help you learn how to maintain your unit properly and much more!

TIP! Tour your home before calling a contractor. Figure out which rooms are too cool or warm.

Think about what improvements you want made before picking an HVAC contractor. A contractor will not be able to give you an accurate price without accurate information about your system. If you don’t have any idea, they will have trouble giving you any sort of quote. Thus, it is worthwhile to have this knowledge ahead of time.

TIP! Before the summer you should clean out your condenser fan’s blades and coils. Before you do clean the coils and fan blades, always take the precaution of turning off all power to the unit.

Clean your fan and coils when the weather begins to warm. Always turn the unit off before you do anything to it, including leaning. Clean the outside of your condenser unit regularly.

TIP! Clean the condenser on your debris regularly. Debris can pile up at rates that increase during rainy or windy weather, and this can foul up the inner workings of your system.

Clean the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan every spring. Be sure to turn the power off first; you don’t want anything to move. Then you need to get the grill popped off and get the blades out so you can clean them and your unit gently.

TIP! Make sure clippings don’t get on your outdoor units when your mowing your lawn. Turn your lawnmower in the opposite direction.

Keep your outdoor units free of debris when your cutting grass. Aim the grass in a different direction from the unit. Also do this when blowing leaves or shoveling snow.

TIP! If you have oil ports as part of the fan condenser, annual lubrication is key. These ports are typically covered with caps made of metal or rubber.

Lubricate the oil ports on your condenser once each year. You can find these ports covered with rubber or metal caps. Put about ten drops or less of a good non-detergent SAE 20 oil into each port.

TIP! If the current location of your HVAC unit outside isn’t working, try having it moved to an area with more shade. It will reduce the temperature of the air going into the unit, meaning that it will not have to work as hard to cool it.

You now likely see how essential HVAC maintenance is. Nothing good will come out of you ignoring all of the issues that occur. The excellent tips provided above will help you to keep your HVAC system in tip top shape.
