Simple HVAC Strategies You Can’t Go On Without

TIP! Check the whole house before you call for help. Figure out which rooms are too cool or warm.

Coming home to a hot or cold house due to a broken HVAC unit is no fun. Your HVAC unit is beyond important, and it is up to you to keep it operating when it counts. The tips that follow will assist you in this process.

TIP! Before you hire an HVAC contractor, have some sort of idea of the work that needs to be done. If you can’t describe the problem, you may not get an accurate quote.

Before contacting a repair service, do a short tour of the entire home. Pay attention to which areas of the house are warm and which ones are cool. Doing so can help your technician fix your HVAC issue quickly.

TIP! If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. You’ll see that the ports here are closed with a rubber or metal cap.

Before selecting a HVAC repairman, know what you need done. If you can’t describe the problem, you may not get an accurate quote. It’s even harder if you’re not able to explain what you’ve done. So be aware of this information ahead of time.

Outside Condenser

TIP! If the current location of your HVAC unit outside isn’t working, try having it moved to an area with more shade. This will ensure cool air is sucked in, meaning less cooling must be done by the unit.

Keeping the outside condenser clean of debris and leaves will improve the system’s efficiency. Always shut off all power to your unit for any work beyond superficial cleaning. Additionally, remove leaves and any other debris from the outside condenser unit.

TIP! To cut energy costs, you should service your cooling and heating system once a year at least. During the service check, the system motor will be inspected, the moving parts will be oiled and the freon levels will be checked This ensures your system runs smoothly.

Clean the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan every spring. For safety, always turn the power off first. Then, take off the grill and get the blades out. Clean everything with care.

TIP! To help lower cooling costs when not at home, make sure the air conditioner is turned off. When you turn it off, the house heats up, but only to a certain threshold.

Fall is a hard time on HVAC units. Clean the fan grill often when leaves are falling. You can head off future problems that can be caused by blockages by making sure there is a free flow of air to your fan.

TIP! Don’t let your home get too hot. It is only possible for an air conditioner to lower the temperature in a home by 20 degrees F in a short time.

Using the preceding tips will help you ensure smooth operation of your HVAC system. Getting to your home and noticing that there isn’t air going out of your vents doesn’t feel good. And high repair costs on top of that just compounds the issues. But using the tips given here will help lessen the chances of those things taking place. Use the information here to carry out maintenance as needed to keep your unit running smoothly.
