Not everyone knows about working on HVAC systems. This can make it hard to choose a good HVAC system or to deal with problems to your existing system. The information you will read will help you tremendously.
If you’ve been having trouble with an HVAC system, look around your home before calling in people to help. Figure out which rooms are hot and cold. This can help the contractor determine the problem areas quickly and fix the problem easily.
Clean the coils and blades in your condenser at the beginning of summer. Prior to working on or cleaning the unit, be sure to turn off the power. The outside condenser unit should be kept free of leaves and other debris.
Each spring, try cleaning the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan. Turn it off first so you don’t get hurt or break something. Remove the grill and carefully clean the blades and surrounding areas.
Some fan condensers may contain oil parts, and if yours does, ensure it is lubricated at least once per year. A rubber or metal cap is typically placed over such ports. You should select an SAE 20 oil since it is lightweight and does not contain detergent. Be sure to use just 10 drops or so, or your system may overfill.
When selecting the spot to put the outdoor compressor for your unit, choose somewhere that gets plenty of shade. When your unit takes in cool air, it takes less energy to tool the air, thus boosting efficiency.
Be sure to have twice annual HVAC system checks. This should be done in Fall and Spring to prepare it for the extreme months. Even though it may seem as nothing is wrong with the unit, a simple inspection can prove otherwise.
Most people who own homes are not happy when something happens to their heat or air conditioning. Understanding them before you have a problem is ideal. Having these tricks and tips handy will help a homeowner solve any HVAC issues affordably and promptly.
