Preparation Is Key When It Comes To HVAC

TIP! Before you choose an HVAC contractor, have an idea in your mind of what needs to be done. A contractor will not be able to give you an accurate price without accurate information about your system.

There are a multitude of HVAC choices. How do you figure out what system is right for your home. How big should it be? What features will you want? Shopping may not be easy. If there are too many choices, then use the following suggestions to help you choose the best system for you.

TIP! Each spring, try cleaning the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan. First, the power should be turned off so things don’t move as you work.

Clean the debris on your condenser units. After a wind or rain storm things may pile up, causing problems with your HVAC system. Also, you are risking your system overheating.

TIP! When you cut the grass, don’t cover the outdoor units with their clippings. Aim the grass clippings in the other direction.

Make certain that you clean your condenser when the weather begins to warm. Don’t forget to disconnect the power first. Remove the grill and carefully clean the blades and surrounding areas.

TIP! Some fan condensers may contain oil parts, and if yours does, ensure it is lubricated at least once per year. The port usually has either a rubber or metal cap on top of it.

Try to prevent debris from getting in your HVAC unit. During this time of year, check and clear off the fan grill on your unit on a regular basis. You can head off future problems that can be caused by blockages by making sure there is a free flow of air to your fan.

TIP! In order to boost efficiency, place new outdoor units or move your current unit to a place which resides in the shade. It will help you save on your energy bill when you do this.

Some fan condensers may contain oil parts, and if yours does, ensure it is lubricated at least once per year. You can easily find the ports as they have a rubber or metal cap. Pick a type of SAE 20 oil that is non-detergent and lightweight. Place 10 or less drops into every port to avoid overfilling.

TIP! Your HVAC system should be checked a few times a year. It’s best to have it checked before you turn it on for the summer and again for the winter.

For maximum efficiency, place outdoor units in a shady spot. If your air conditioner is able to constantly suck in cool air, it won’t have to work overtime to cool your space, which can in turn save you money on your electricity bills.

TIP! If you own your own home or have permission from your landlord, replace your single pane windows with double paned versions. Having a double pane window helps limit your need for air conditioning during the summer months.

You can sometimes get overwhelmed when picking out a good HVAC system. But with the information provided above, getting what you need should be much easier. Review these tips and use them to make a selection. It will help you keep your home comfy.
