Learn Some Excellent Advice About Purchasing HVAC Equipment

TIP! Know the name and type of your HVAC system before looking for a repair person. It is important to understand what model it is and which brand it is.

You do not want to avoid the maintenance of your HVAC system. You are likely here to learn about getting your HVAC system to last. The article below has many solid tips just for you!

TIP! Before selecting a HVAC repairman, know what you need done. Providing you with an accurate estimate over the telephone may be difficult to impossible is they can’t see the system you have.

When you start making calls to get someone to help with your HVAC system, it’s a good idea to know what system you have before that phone call. Look for the model and brand number. If you have to have someone come out to repair the unit, you will be able to help the contractor understand more about what is going on.

TIP! To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Before you do clean the coils and fan blades, always take the precaution of turning off all power to the unit.

If you struggle with your HVAC, try touring your home before calling a professional. You will be looking to see which of your rooms feel hotter or colder than they should be. This gives the repairer a starting point to work from.

TIP! Make sure you have your HVAC system checked at least twice a year. This should happen in the fall and the spring.

Clean the condenser coils and fan at the beginning of the year to help the unit run efficiently. Always shut the power off before doing any work or cleaning on the unit. Also, be sure to clear leaves and debris from your condenser unit.

TIP! When it gets cold outside, the outdoor condenser unit should be turned off. If it’s less than 60 degrees outside, turn the unit off.

Try to prevent debris from getting in your HVAC unit. Clean the fan grill often when leaves are falling. The fan needs to be able to get proper air inside without any blockages, and extra blockage can later develop into more serious problems.

TIP! If you are a home owner, replace whatever single pane windows you have with more efficient double-paned versions. Having double pane windows allows your air conditioning unit to be run much less during the summer, because the cool air is kept inside the home.

If you have oil ports as part of the fan condenser, annual lubrication is key. A rubber or metal cap is typically placed over such ports. You should select an SAE 20 oil since it is lightweight and does not contain detergent. Be sure to use just 10 drops or so, or your system may overfill.

TIP! One way to save some money with A/C is by having a programmable thermostat installed. Turning down the thermostat around 10 percent for 8 hours per day can give you a 10 percent savings using the programmable thermostat.

Maintaining your system is critical. If you don’t do this and your system breaks, the repair bill can be very costly. The purpose of the suggestions above is to help you prevent expensive repairs to your HVAC system.
