You may be overwhelmed by the amount of HVAC system choices out there. What system should you get? How big? What features will you want? All the new products available these days can make for a frustrating shopping experience. Use these tips to find the system that will suit your needs.

TIP! Know what you need before you hire a contractor. A contractor will be hard pressed to provide you with an over-the-phone estimate if unfamiliar with your system.

What do you need done? Know this before calling a contractor. It is going to be hard to get a price estimate on the phone if the current system isn’t something they’ve seen. If you don’t have any idea, they will have trouble giving you any sort of quote. Learn this information to start with.

TIP! Clean the debris off your outdoor condenser unit. Debris quickly gathers here, even more so if there is a storm.

Clean your fan blades and coils each spring to ensure that your condenser fan operates at it’s best. Before you clean the surface, be sure to turn off the power. Leaves and debris can build up inside the unit and cause damage.

Clean your outdoor condensers often. Things pile up after storms and damage your system. It may begin to overheat, causing massive damage.

TIP! Don’t let grass clippings pile up against your outdoor condenser. Make sure you shoot the clippings in the other direction from the unit.

When you are cutting the grass, be sure not to cover your outdoor units with clippings. Direct the clippings away from the equipment. The same should happen if you are blowing leaves, so be especially careful when you are going by your exterior HVAC devices whenever you are moving debris.

TIP! If there are oil ports on your fan condenser, lubricate it annually. Such ports tend to have coverings made of rubber or metal.

If the fan on your condenser includes oil ports, they must be lubricated annually. A rubber or metal cap is typically placed over such ports. Look for an oil that is lightweight and then put about 10 drops inside the port. You don’t want to put in too much.

TIP! It is always a good idea to swap out single pane windows for double pane ones. To keep your home cool, investing in double pane windows is a must.
