Knowledge Is Power, And These HVAC Tips Are Priceless

TIP! What do you need done? Know this before calling a contractor. It’s hard to get an estimate since they haven’t look at your system.

Many people would like to know about their HVAC unit, but they believe it is difficult. You shouldn’t let this hold you back, though. Use these thoughts to help increase your understanding.

TIP! If your condenser units are outisde, make sure any debris is cleaned from them regularly. Wind can pile up all sorts of debris against its grill.

Before calling for help, know the system you have. Find out the brand and model and, if possible, dig out the maintenance history. If you have to have someone come out to repair the unit, you will be able to help the contractor understand more about what is going on.

Outside Condenser

TIP! For maximum efficiency, place outdoor units in a shady spot. When the air conditioner pulls in cooler air, it won’t have to do much more to cool it and that will save you a lot of money on energy bills.

Keep outside condenser fans running smoothly by cleaning fan blades and coils before the summer begins. Before you clean the unit, be sure to turn off the power. In addition, always remove all debris such as leaves from the outside condenser unit.

TIP! Make sure your HVAC systems is checked twice a year. Most homeowners choose to have their unit inspected during the spring and the fall months.

If you have outside condenser units, make sure to regularly clean the debris that builds up. Excess debris can really affect your system’s quality. It can overheat, leading to disaster within your system.

TIP! If possible, your single pane windows should be replaced with double-paned ones. Good double pane windows keep cool air in during the summer and minimize your utility expenses.

Clean the coils on the condenser fan from time to time. Before you begin cleaning the unit, make sure that it is unplugged. Then remove the grill, remove the blades and clean it from top to bottom gently.

TIP! Shut off the air conditioning if nobody is home. Sure, the temp will rise, but no one is home anyway.

Make sure clippings don’t get on your outdoor units when your mowing your lawn. Instead, make sure that the grass is shooting in the opposite direction. This same tip applies when you are blowing fallen leaves around the yard. Grass and leaves pose a serious problem for the internal functioning of your unit.

TIP! Research multiple contractors before choosing one. Check with the BBB and look for reviews of potential companies online.

HVAC units may suffer when leaves are falling off the trees. Clean outdoor units often to remove leaves. The fan needs unobstructed air flow, and if debris is blocking this air flow, then your system could suffer.

TIP! Sometimes, air conditioners collect ice. Freezing drain lines are also possible and can be mistaken for leaks.

HVAC maintenance isn’t terribly difficult, especially if you have some helpful advice like that found in the tips above. Keep these tips in mind when you start. Start as soon as you can for the best results.
