Knowledge Is Power, And These HVAC Tips Are Priceless

TIP! Before you call someone to help you fix your system, be sure to know what sort of system you have in place. Write down the make, model, and any maintenance history.

When looking for an HVAC system for your home, the number of options available to you can be overwhelming. How can you decide which system to purchase? How big do you need? Which features? As these units advance and become more complicated, choosing the right one can be confusing. If the choices seem overwhelming, you will be glad to have found these tips on choosing the right system.

TIP! If you’ve been having trouble with an HVAC system, look around your home before calling in people to help. Find out which rooms are hot and which are cold.

What system do you have? You need this information to tell your contractor. Find out the brand and model and, if possible, dig out the maintenance history. The contractor will likely need all of this information.

TIP! To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Except when cleaning the outside, turn the unit off when performing any type of maintenance.

When you call an HVAC system for help, you need to be aware of what you need them to do before calling. They won’t be able to offer you a quote if they haven’t seen your system. If you can’t explain changes you’ve made, the process will be even more difficult. Make an effort to gather all information you need before making the phone call.

TIP! If the outside of your home has condenser units, ensure they are constantly cleaned. Falling leaves and wind or rain may cause debris to reduce the efficiency of your unit.

Clean the fan blades and coils prior to summertime. Always turn the unit off before you do anything to it, including leaning. Clean the outside of your condenser unit regularly.

TIP! If you need to decide the best place to put your outdoor compressor unit, consider putting it in a location that is in the shade. The cooler air that the unit can suck in, the less work it will need to do to further cool the air.

Clean the condenser on your debris regularly. Leaves, twigs and other troublesome objects can accumulate, particularly after very windy weather, and this will wreak havoc on your system. It can cause your system to malfunction by overheating.

TIP! For maximum efficiency, place outdoor units in a shady spot. As your air conditioner sucks in cool air, little will have to be done to cool it any further, saving you a ton on your energy bills.

Clean the fan blades and coils in your condenser each spring. Don’t forget to disconnect the power first. Then take off the grill, take the blades out, and gently clean them.

TIP! Be sure you have the HVAC unit in your home checked about two times every year. This should be checked often for debris and malfunctions.

Selecting a new HVAC system is confusing, and it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Luckily, the tips presented here will make that job easier. Take the time to review these tips again, and use them when you are making your final selection so that your home becomes comfortable and enjoyable all year round.
