It is vital to keep your home heated and cooled at all times. This means that it is of utmost importance your HVAC system is constantly checked and you ensure it is properly working. If you have a poor HVAC, you will be costing yourself a lot of money. Use these helpful tips to maintain your HVAC system in tip-top shape.

TIP! If you are having issues with your HVAC, do a tour of your house before you call in help. Figure out which rooms are too cool or warm.

Know what type of system you currently have before calling someone to fix it. Take a look at the system or the owner’s manual to find the name and model number. This will ensure that you can give your new contractor all the information they need.

TIP! Know what you need before you hire a contractor. This will make the quote process much easier.

If you are having issues with your HVAC, do a tour of your house before you call in help. While you are walking through the house, gauge which rooms are the coolest and which are the warmest. Give this information to your contractor when they arrive.

TIP! If the condenser for your HVAC system is located outside, make sure you clear away any debris that might settle in or around it. After a wind or rain storm things may pile up, causing problems with your HVAC system.

Before selecting a HVAC repairman, know what you need done. It is going to be hard to get a price estimate on the phone if the current system isn’t something they’ve seen. Being unable to explain what has been already done will make it even harder. So, know this information in advance.

TIP! Each spring, clean the fan blades and coils on your condenser. Turn the power off so nothing moves.

Clean any debris that accumulates on an external condenser unit. Leaves, twigs and other troublesome objects can accumulate, particularly after very windy weather, and this will wreak havoc on your system. Overheating may be the result if you don’t.

TIP! As the leaves are falling off the trees, your HVAC system can really take a hit. At least twice a week, you need to clean the grill of your fan.

Make sure your condenser fan is in good working order by wiping down the fan blades and the coils. Before you begin cleaning the unit, make sure that it is unplugged. Then, take off the grill and get the blades out. Clean everything with care.

TIP! If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. You can find these ports covered with rubber or metal caps.

Now you know just how to get a quality HVAC system. Don’t let it go bad on you by not paying attention to regular maintenance. These tips will help you to maintain your unit and avoid breakdowns.
