HVAC: What You Should Know Before You Begin

TIP! Before calling someone to repair your system, make sure you know what kind of HVAC system you actually have. You need to know who manufactured the product and the item number.

Many people think that the HVAC system is too complicated for them to even learn about. You shouldn’t let this hold you back, though. This guide will help you get the most out of your HVAC unit.

TIP! If the condenser for your HVAC system is located outside, make sure you clear away any debris that might settle in or around it. Leaves and debris can accumulate quickly, particularly following storms, and that can cause problems for your system.

Before calling anyone to repair your system, know what system you have. Know the model and brand and find it’s maintenance history, if possible. If you have to have someone come out to repair the unit, you will be able to help the contractor understand more about what is going on.

TIP! When you cut the grass, make sure your mower isn’t tossing clippings toward your outdoor units. Make certain the debris goes away from it.

Before contacting a repair service, do a short tour of the entire home. Note which rooms are hot and which are cold. That way, the contractor will have an easier time diagnosing the problem and repairing it fast.

TIP! A shady spot is always a good choice for the placement of your outdoor compressor. When your unit takes in cool air, it takes less energy to tool the air, thus boosting efficiency.

To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Except when you do superficial cleaning, you need to always make sure the power is off on the unit. Clean off any leaves or debris from your external condenser unit.

TIP! For maximum efficiency, place outdoor units in a shady spot. As you get your air conditioner to suck in cool air it won’t have to do too much work to cool it which saves you some money.

Clean the fan blades and coils in your condenser each spring. First, the power should be turned off so things don’t move as you work. Pull out each of the blades and clean them one by one.

TIP! Never let your home reach a dangerously hot temperature. It takes quite a while to cool a home by more than 20 degrees.

Be careful when doing yard work that you do not get debris on or in your unit. Turn your lawnmower in the opposite direction. This also applies to blowing leaves or moving debris. Just be careful with that exterior HVAC unit.

TIP! When you want a HVAC contractor who is reliable, you need to spend some time in researching the background and reputation of several potential companies. It is a good idea to check with the BBB and look for reviews from prior clients.

Fall is a hard time on HVAC units. When you see nearby trees shedding their leaves, clean the fan grill on your unit constantly. Because the fan requires a clear path for air to enter, you may encounter issues with your system if the fan gets blocked up.

This advice should make your HVAC issues a piece of cake to deal with. Use the above tips to help you begin. Get going and reap the benefits.
