HVAC: What You Should Know Before You Begin

TIP! Before calling anyone to repair your system, know what system you have. Get the brand, model name, and if you can you should get the maintenance history out.

You may be confused by all the choices you see when shopping for an HVAC system. How do you know what type of system to buy? How big do you need? What features do you need? It can overwhelming to shop since so many new features are coming out each day. If the choices are overwhelming you, use these tips to get the best system.

TIP! When you call an HVAC system for help, you need to be aware of what you need them to do before calling. This will make the quote process much easier.

Before you start calling to find someone to fix your unit, make sure you know the type of system that is installed. Know what the manufacturer’s name is, which particular model you have and what’s gone on with the unit in the past. This will give contractor’s a better idea of what to expect before they show up, which will help things go more smoothly on arrival.

TIP! Make sure clippings don’t get on your outdoor units when your mowing your lawn. Turn your lawnmower in the opposite direction.

Clean the coils and blades in your condenser at the beginning of summer. Before you clean the surface, be sure to turn off the power. Also, it is important to clear the outside condenser unit from any debris that maybe trapped inside.

TIP! The HVAC unit in your home can become damaged from falling leaves. Clean outdoor units often to remove leaves.

Clean any debris that accumulates on an external condenser unit. Falling leaves and wind or rain may cause debris to reduce the efficiency of your unit. It could overheat and cause a disaster with your unit.

TIP! When the weather starts to cool down, make sure you turn off outdoor condenser units. If the temperature drops to under 60 degrees, you risk damage to the unit if you leave it on.

Clean your condenser’s fan blades and coil in the spring. First, the power should be turned off so things don’t move as you work. Then, remove the grill, then remove the blades and begin the cleaning process of the blades and the unit.

TIP! If you are a homeowner, or if you can get permission from your landlord, install double-paned windows in place of any single panes in your home. Having a double pane window helps limit your need for air conditioning during the summer months.

During the fall, leaves can gather around your HVAC. During this time of year, check and clear off the fan grill on your unit on a regular basis. The fan must stay clear in order to function, and if it gets blocked, you will have to contend with problems.

TIP! Regularly having your HVAC system serviced can help keep your heating and cooling bills down. This visit will include a motor inspection and checking the freon.

Selecting your HVAC system can be hard to do, and it may overwhelm you sometimes. The tips you just read will help you with that and much more. Take another look at this advice and be sure to apply them to have your home comfortable.
