HVAC: What You Should Know Before You Begin

TIP! Check out the system that you have before you call a professional. Write down the make, model, and any maintenance history.

When your HVAC goes bad, you may end up in chaos. Repairing an HVAC unit is expensive and it can take a while before your home is once again a comfortable environment. It is best to maintain your HVAC system properly, and tips in that regard are found below.

TIP! To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Always turn the unit off before you do anything to it, including leaning.

When you call an HVAC system for help, you need to be aware of what you need them to do before calling. It is going to be hard to get a price estimate on the phone if the current system isn’t something they’ve seen. It can be harder if you don’t know what’s wrong. Having this information handy will make the process much smoother.

TIP! Every spring you should clean the coils and fan blades on your condenser fan. First, turn the power off so nothing moves when you’re working with it.

Clean the coils and blades in your condenser at the beginning of summer. If you are doing more than a light surface cleaning, make sure that the power is shut off to the HVAC unit. In addition, be sure to get rid of any leaves or other debris that may have accumulated on the outside condenser.

TIP! When you are cutting the grass, be sure not to cover your outdoor units with clippings. Shoot the grass away from the unit.

Make sure your condenser fan is in good working order by wiping down the fan blades and the coils. First, turn the power off so nothing moves when you’re working with it. Take the grill off and pull the blades out to clean them.

TIP! As you notice the tress begin to lose their leaves, keep an eye on your outdoor condenser unit. Whenever leaves are falling, consistently clean the fan grill.

When you cut the grass, make sure your mower isn’t tossing clippings toward your outdoor units. Aim your grass cuttings in a direction away from your unit. This includes grass clippings and leaves.

TIP! If you are choosing where to place your outdoor compressor device, try to put it in a place where there is plenty of shade. If you have a unit taking in air that’s cooler, it won’t have to work so hard to cool air that it sends to your home.

When you are choosing a location for the outdoor compressor unit, it’s preferable to use a shaded area. In this way, it will be cooling air that is already somewhat cooled. This saves energy.

TIP! To help lower cooling costs when not at home, make sure the air conditioner is turned off. The house will only heat to certain level and a decent HVAC system can quickly cool this down once you are home.

You need a good HVAC system to keep your home comfortable. Many homeowners choose to neglect these units until it is too late and they begin malfunctioning, which can lead to expensive repairs or even an entire replacement! Using the tips here will help keep your HVAC system working correctly.
