HVAC Getting You Down? These Tips Will Help

TIP! Before contacting a repair service, do a short tour of the entire home. Note which of your rooms are hot and which are cold.

It is hard to get started getting to know HVAC. That said, a bit of time reading this article can be a huge help. You are about to receive some terrific guidance that will help.

TIP! Before choosing an HVAC contractor, think of what you wish to have done. Discussing the problem is simplified if you understand what has happened with the unit.

When you start making calls to get someone to help with your HVAC system, it’s a good idea to know what system you have before that phone call. Write down the make, model, and any maintenance history. This helps make sure the contractor has the information they will need.

TIP! Clean your fan blades and coils each spring to ensure that your condenser fan operates at it’s best. If you are doing more than a light surface cleaning, make sure that the power is shut off to the HVAC unit.

Inspect the temps in your home before you call a service to help you with any HVAC issues you’re having. Notice the temperature in each room. Are some cooler or hotter than others? This will allow a contractor to quickly figure out what the issue is and how it can be fixed fast.

TIP! Be sure to clean external condenser units regularly. After a wind or rain storm things may pile up, causing problems with your system.

Before you choose someone to do HVAC work, figure out what they need to do for you. It is going to be hard to get a price estimate on the phone if the current system isn’t something they’ve seen. If you can’t explain anything to them, this will be even more difficult. So be aware of this information ahead of time.

Outside Condenser

TIP! Avoid showering your outdoor unit with grass clippings when you mow the lawn. Shoot the grass away from the unit.

In order to keep your outside condenser fan running efficiently, make sure the coils and the fan blades are cleaned before the cooling season begins. Before you clean the unit, be sure to turn off the power. In addition, always remove all debris such as leaves from the outside condenser unit.

TIP! Lubricate the oil ports on your condenser once each year. They generally have a rubber or metal cap on them.

Outdoor condenser units need to be cleaned regularly. You can never tell when things will pile up, especially following rain or wind storms. These can wreak havoc on your units. Overheating could occur, which will be problematic.

TIP! Put your outdoor unit in places with shade. This will help you save on your energy bill.

If you are ready to learn about HVAC systems, it isn’t hard. Everything will work well for you as long as you follow the advice given here. You can save a lot of money if you do so.
