HVAC Getting You Down? These Tips Will Help

TIP! Get all of the details regarding a broken system before calling for repair. Know the model and brand and find it’s maintenance history, if possible.

It’s always the hottest or coldest day when your HVAC fails. Learning about HVAC systems in advance will help you when it needs repair. Keep reading and this will help you do this.

TIP! Keep outside condenser fans running smoothly by cleaning fan blades and coils before the summer begins. Before you do clean the coils and fan blades, always take the precaution of turning off all power to the unit.

Before you contact people to assist you in getting your system fixed, know what kind of system you’re working with in the first place. Learn the brand, model, and if you have it, the maintenance history. This makes sure your contractor will be sufficiently prepared.

TIP! Make sure that you regularly clean debris that might build up on external condenser units. Particularly after bad weather, you should inspect your unit.

Know what you need before you hire a contractor. If you can’t describe the problem, you may not get an accurate quote. If you don’t have any idea, they will have trouble giving you any sort of quote. So, know this information in advance.

TIP! Clean the coils on the condenser fan from time to time. First, make sure the power is off to ensure nothing moves while you are working.

If you have outside condenser units, make sure to regularly clean the debris that builds up. You never know when things can pile up, especially after a windy or rainy storm, and that can throw a wrench in your system. This can lead to overheating.

Begin Cleaning

TIP! The HVAC unit in your home can become damaged from falling leaves. Make sure you clean out your fan grill often once nearby trees start shedding their leaves.

The coils and blades on the fans should be cleaned once a year. Before you begin cleaning the unit, make sure that it is unplugged. Then, pop off its grills, pull the blades out, and begin cleaning the unit and them gently.

TIP! Look for shade when placing a compressor outdoors. This will limit the work that it has to do.

Make sure clippings don’t get on your outdoor units when your mowing your lawn. Shoot grass the other way. When blowing leaves, do the same. Always take care when passing your HVAC units while moving leaves, grass or other debris.

TIP! If you own your own home or have permission from your landlord, replace your single pane windows with double paned versions. Double-pane windows keep inside air cooler, allowing you to reduce AC usage in the summertime.

As the leaves are falling off the trees, your HVAC system can really take a hit. Cleaning your unit is very important for its effectiveness. The fan needs to be able to get proper air inside without any blockages, and extra blockage can later develop into more serious problems.

TIP! Shut off the air conditioning if nobody is home. Turning it off does allow the temperature to rise, but only so far.

Knowing that your HVAC system needs to be repaired or replaced can be worrisome. However, the right knowledge makes the process less daunting. Ideally, you now know what to do to keep your unit running well.
