Helpful Hints For HVAC Novices And Pros

TIP! If your HVAC is running into problems, check out each room in your house before calling for assistance. Determine which rooms feel cold and which feel hot.

It is frustrating to need work done to your HVAC system when the weather is at it’s peak. The key to keeping your equipment running great is maintenance and finding quality service. Read this article to learn more.

Check out the system that you have before you call a professional. Look for the model and brand number. Your contractor will appreciate this information.

TIP! Clean the coils on the condenser fan from time to time. Be sure to turn the power off first; you don’t want anything to move.

If you’ve been having trouble with an HVAC system, look around your home before calling in people to help. Note which rooms are hot and which are cold. This gives the repairer a starting point to work from.

Outside Condenser

TIP! As the trees around your home lose leaves, it can cause your HVAC unit trouble. When you notice your trees shedding, frequently clean your unit’s fan grill.

Help the outside condenser fan run efficiently by cleaning the coils and fan blades before the summer starts. If you are doing more than a light surface cleaning, make sure that the power is shut off to the HVAC unit. The outside condenser unit should be kept free of leaves and other debris.

TIP! When selecting a location for an outdoor compressor, opt for a shady area, if possible. This will limit the work that it has to do.

Each spring, clean the fan blades and coils on your condenser. Before you begin cleaning the unit, make sure that it is unplugged. Pull out each of the blades and clean them one by one.

TIP! When it gets cold outside, the outdoor condenser unit should be turned off. If the temperature outside is less than 60ºF, be sure to turn off the unit so that you don’t damage it.

Avoid showering your outdoor unit with grass clippings when you mow the lawn. Aim your grass cuttings in a direction away from your unit. This also applies to blowing leaves or moving debris. Just be careful with that exterior HVAC unit.

TIP! Update the windows in your home to double-paned if you own it. Double pane windows will help keep your home cooler in the summer.

If the fan on your condenser includes oil ports, they must be lubricated annually. Such ports tend to have coverings made of rubber or metal. Put 10 drops of lightweight, non-detergent SAE oil in each port. Be careful not to use too much.

TIP! Save some cash by shutting down the air-conditioning system when there is no one in the house. The house will heat up when it is turned off, but only a certain amount.

The idea of having to hire an HVAC professional may seem daunting if you don’t have the right knowledge. When you start the search armed with good information, it is much simpler and quicker. With the information given, you will hopefully be prepared now.
