There’s a lot more to college than just the next step following high school. It is an entirely different world, where you are in the driver’s seat instead of your parents. It’s important to take all factors into consideration and prepare yourself for whatever may come.
If hitting an academic stride has been a challenge, check for any available study skills seminars. A lot of students get high grades without trying very hard in high school so they need help figuring out how to effectively study to do well in college. Improving your study skills can enable you to succeed in your classes and reach all of your goals.
Where you sit can play a role in your class experience. Don’t sit at the back! Try to sit near the front. Also, this will make it easier for you to ask questions and make points.
Take the time to exercise or take a walk and keep physically active. This lets you meet other people and exercise, too. Enlisting others to go with you is a great way to broaden your circle.
Make sure you’re sleeping enough. It can be tempting, especially when living in a dorm, to stay up all night and party and try to cram in studying, but you have got to get some good sleep. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be able to be as focused in class as you should be.
When you start class, take the time to introduce yourself to your professors. Be sure that you know where their offices are and how you can easily get a hold of them. It’s critical to have a good relationship with them if you need extra time on an assignment or their understanding on another issue.
Now you should have a better idea of what the college experience means. It’s time to start planning. Having knowledge will help you make the most of your college efforts.
