What You Must Know About HVAC Purchases

TIP! Before you call someone to help you fix your system, be sure to know what sort of system you have in place. Know what the manufacturer’s name is, which particular model you have and what’s gone on with the unit in the past.

You might not worry much about your HVAC system until it breaks down. Then, it will become very important. It can be hard to get a repairman to fix your system. The tips here will ensure you have no issues with the process.

TIP! If you’ve been having trouble with an HVAC system, look around your home before calling in people to help. Figure out which rooms feel hot and which feel cold.

Understand what you want before talking to a contractor. A contractor will be hard pressed to provide you with an over-the-phone estimate if unfamiliar with your system. If you are unable to explain the work that needs to be taken care of, the conversation will be even less fruitful. Make an effort to gather all information you need before making the phone call.

TIP! Know what work you want done before you select an HVAC contractor. If you can’t describe the problem, you may not get an accurate quote.

Keeping the outside condenser clean of debris and leaves will improve the system’s efficiency. Before you do clean the coils and fan blades, always take the precaution of turning off all power to the unit. Remove leaves and debris from the outside condenser.

TIP! Keep outside condenser fans running smoothly by cleaning fan blades and coils before the summer begins. Prior to working on or cleaning the unit, be sure to turn off the power.

When you are cutting the grass, be sure not to cover your outdoor units with clippings. Aim the grass in a different direction from the unit. This also applies to leaf blowing and any other yard work that results in debris.

TIP! Clean the debris from outside units often. You don’t know the amount of stuff that can pile up right after heavy winds or a storm.

Some fan condensers may contain oil parts, and if yours does, ensure it is lubricated at least once per year. You’ll find these ports are covered with a metal or rubber cap. Pick out a SAE 20 type of oil because it has no detergent, is lightweight, and you should put around 10 drops in the ports but make it to where they don’t get too full.

TIP! Put your outdoor unit in places with shade. The unit will have to do less work cooling this air.

When selecting the spot to put the outdoor compressor for your unit, choose somewhere that gets plenty of shade. The cooler the air that the unit is able to access, the less work it has to perform.

TIP! Your HVAC system should be checked a few times a year. It’s best to have it checked before you turn it on for the summer and again for the winter.

Now you should be better educated when it comes to HVAC systems. If you have a system in need of repair or replacement, you know what you need to do. These tips will help you through it all.
