Tips From The Pros For Your HVAC Needs At Home Or The Office

TIP! What system do you have? You need this information to tell your contractor. Look for the maintenance history and brand and model.

Letting the HVAC system break is not something you want to deal with. You probably are here because you’re trying to figure out what can be done to help you with your HVAC system. Keep reading for some great tips.

Outside Condenser

TIP! Clean the debris off your outdoor condenser unit. You never know when things can pile up, especially after a windy or rainy storm, and that can throw a wrench in your system.

In order to keep your outside condenser fan running efficiently, make sure the coils and the fan blades are cleaned before the cooling season begins. If you are doing more than a light surface cleaning, make sure that the power is shut off to the HVAC unit. In addition, be sure to get rid of any leaves or other debris that may have accumulated on the outside condenser.

TIP! Clean the fan blades and coils in your condenser each spring. First, the power should be turned off so things don’t move as you work.

If you have condenser units outside your home, be sure to clean out the debris from them often. Things pile up after storms and damage your system. It can get overheated, which will cause problems with the whole system.

TIP! Avoid showering your outdoor unit with grass clippings when you mow the lawn. Make sure you shoot the clippings in the other direction from the unit.

Keep your outdoor units free of debris when you are mowing the lawn. Turn your lawnmower in the opposite direction. This also applies to leaf blowing and any other yard work that results in debris.

TIP! Your HVAC unit requires regular maintenance at least two times per each year. This should be done in Fall and Spring to prepare it for the extreme months.

As the leaves are falling off the trees, your HVAC system can really take a hit. Be sure to clean your fan grill frequently when trees nearby are shedding. You can head off future problems that can be caused by blockages by making sure there is a free flow of air to your fan.

TIP! Have a smart thermostat installed. These convenient thermostats may shave ten percent or more off of your bills, because they significantly cut energy use when you’re not around.

If there are oil ports on your fan condenser, lubricate it annually. You will notice these ports have a rubber or metal cap covering them. Chose SAE 20 oil, which has been proven to be the most effective.

TIP! When you are away from home, adjust your thermostat to a money saving temperature. Sure, the temp will rise, but no one is home anyway.

When you are choosing a location for the outdoor compressor unit, it’s preferable to use a shaded area. If you have a unit taking in air that’s cooler, it won’t have to work so hard to cool air that it sends to your home.

You have to care for your HVAC. It can cost lots of money to get it fixed. Use these tips to keep this from happening.
