Preparation Is Key When It Comes To HVAC

TIP! Know the name and type of your HVAC system before looking for a repair person. Learn the brand, model, and if you have it, the maintenance history.

While keeping a house’s HVAC system running all the time is a task that homeowners have, they aren’t all sure how to perform it properly. Learning about selecting the best HVAC professional replacement or repair services is a smart thing homeowners can do. The tips that follow will get you started.

TIP! Before you choose someone to do HVAC work, figure out what they need to do for you. Discussing the problem is simplified if you understand what has happened with the unit.

Inspect the temps in your home before you call a service to help you with any HVAC issues you’re having. Pay attention to which areas of the house are warm and which ones are cool. This will help your contractor quickly determine where the issue lies and how to get it fixed quickly and easily.

TIP! Cover your unit when you are mowing the lawn. Aim the grass clippings in the other direction.

Clean your outdoor condensers often. Falling leaves and wind or rain may cause debris to reduce the efficiency of your unit. It can get overheated, which will cause problems with the whole system.

TIP! You need to lubricate parts of your fan condenser. They are usually fitted with a rubber or metal cap.

Be sure to clean the fan blades and coils of the condenser fan. Before you do so, shut off the power to ensure that none of the parts will move while you work on it. Then remove the grill, remove the blades and clean it from top to bottom gently.

TIP! Your system should be checked twice a year. The normally recommended time for HVAC system inspections is once before the peak cooling season when it gets hot and you’ll be using your AC, and once before the peak heating season, during the cold months when you’re likely to be using your heat.

When you mow your lawn, take care that you don’t get grass clippings all over your outdoor unit. Shoot the grass away from the unit. The same thing should go on when you blow leaves, so take your time when you’re working around HVAC units that are around when you’re blowing debris around.

TIP! If nobody is home, turn off the AC. By raising the temperature from, for example 78 to 80, your house will be warmer, but only up to 80 before your AC kicks in.

HVAC units may suffer when leaves are falling off the trees. Frequently clean the fan grill when trees are shedding leaves. Your fan needs an unobstructed way to get air inside, and the more blocked up it becomes, the more headaches will develop for you with the system.

TIP! Do not allow your house to get extremely hot. An air conditioner can only cool your home by 20ºF quickly.

Little is more important than living in a comfy home than having an HVAC that works properly. Therefore, if it breaks, you need to know how to handle the situation. Luckily you were given this great information so you know what you need to put into all of this.
