College is more than just something after high school. It’s where the a whole different world is opened up, and you have so many life choices to make. You must plan everything and be prepared for whatever you encounter.
Organize all of the essential materials for college before you begin. Even if you are attending school close to home, it is much more convenient to have everything with you rather than calling your parents to deliver things. This is even more important if you will be attending a college that is far away.
Apply to scholarships and other grants early. When you work as hard on getting funding as you do your classes, you’ll end up borrowing less in the end. Figure out a system that allows you to manage your finances and allows you to apply for things quickly.
Study skill courses can be a lifesaver for those struggling with college. College courses are different from high school and require a transition. Thus, a course in study skills may be just the ticket.
Wait to buy your books until after your classes begin. You may figure out later that the books aren’t even required. This is often true for hybrid or online classes. Sometimes, the course content will suffice in teaching you the course.
Take time to study every day. Make some time for other activities, but always put studying first. Give yourself a minimum of an hour to study daily. Study every day, whether you need to or not. It will make studying a routine.
You should always purchase used books! School books are expensive and new ones can cost a small fortune. The book’s material is the same, so there is no reason not to purchase them used.
Now, with your new knowledge of the realities of college, it is time to start planning. Your time in college is a time where you want to make sure that you have all your ducks in a row.
