HVAC Doesn’t Have To Be Hard, Here’s Help

TIP! Before calling anyone to repair your system, know what system you have. Know the model and brand and find it’s maintenance history, if possible.

The HVAC system is something many people would like to know about, but they think it is too difficult to tackle. This doesn’t need to be the way things are, though. Use these thoughts to help increase your understanding.

TIP! Before an HVAC expert comes to your home to do any repair work, walk around the home and check out the temps in every room. Pay attention to which areas of the house are warm and which ones are cool.

Before you contact people to assist you in getting your system fixed, know what kind of system you’re working with in the first place. It is important to understand what model it is and which brand it is. Also, if it has been serviced before, you should have that information handy. This will help you give the new contractor the necessary information.

TIP! When you mow your lawn, take care that you don’t get grass clippings all over your outdoor unit. Have the grass shoot in the opposite direction.

If problems arise with the HVAC system, check the entire house before contacting someone to come for repairs. Know what part of the house is cold and which is hot. That knowledge can help the technician figure out what is going on.

TIP! Lubricate your condenser yearly if it has oil ports. You’ll see that the ports here are closed with a rubber or metal cap.

Before you hire an HVAC contractor, have some sort of idea of the work that needs to be done. Providing you with an accurate estimate over the telephone may be difficult to impossible is they can’t see the system you have. Getting an estimate will be even more difficult if you cannot adequately describe the problem. So, figure out this information before anything else.

Outside Condenser

TIP! Once it gets cold outside, you should turn off the outdoor condenser unit. To avoid damage, units should be turned off when temperatures are below 60 degrees.

In order to keep your outside condenser fan running efficiently, make sure the coils and the fan blades are cleaned before the cooling season begins. Always shut off all power to your unit for any work beyond superficial cleaning. Remove leaves and debris from the outside condenser.

TIP! A good way to save money with your air conditioning is by installing a programmable thermostat. Turning down the thermostat around 10 percent for 8 hours per day can give you a 10 percent savings using the programmable thermostat.

When you cut the grass, make sure your mower isn’t tossing clippings toward your outdoor units. Have the grass shoot in the opposite direction. If you’re blowing leaves, this same problem can occur, so make sure you move around the unit and blow the leaves away from it.

TIP! Don’t let your home get overly hot. It takes quite a while to cool a home by more than 20 degrees.

HVAC can become simple of you use the tips found above. It is really hard to learn about this without trying the above tips first, so keep that in mind. Keep them handy for whenever you need them.
