If you’re in the market for an HVAC system, the available options may be overwhelming. You may not know which system will work best for you. How big do you need? Which features? There are so many systems out there, you may be confused by what is available. Use these tips to find the system that will suit your needs.
What system do you have? You need this information to tell your contractor. Know the model and brand and find it’s maintenance history, if possible. This will facilitate the process when your contractor asks for this information.
Clean your condenser’s fan blades and coils come spring. Always turn the unit off before you do anything to it, including leaning. Remove leaves and debris from the outdoor unit.
The coils and blades on the fans should be cleaned once a year. Shut the power off before you do anything. Then you need to get the grill popped off and get the blades out so you can clean them and your unit gently.
If the fan on your condenser includes oil ports, they must be lubricated annually. Such ports tend to have coverings made of rubber or metal. Look for an oil that is lightweight and then put about 10 drops inside the port. You don’t want to put in too much.
Look for shade when placing a compressor outdoors. When your unit takes in cool air, it takes less energy to tool the air, thus boosting efficiency.
Update the windows in your home to double-paned if you own it. Double pane windows will help keep your home cooler in the summer. When it is cold in the winter months, these same windows will keep the warm air inside as well.
Sometimes, you may be confused when shopping for an HVAC system. Now this should be a lot easier on you, however, because you have great advice in hand. Take time to review the tips and use them to find a unit that will make your home enjoyable and comfortable all year.
