If you struggle with your HVAC, try touring your home before calling a professional. Find out which rooms are hot and which are cold. Give this information to your contractor when they arrive.

TIP! If you have oil ports as part of the fan condenser, annual lubrication is key. You can find these ports covered with rubber or metal caps.

Clean the coils of your condenser fan each month. Prior to working on or cleaning the unit, be sure to turn off the power. Additionally, remove leaves and any other debris from the outside condenser unit.

TIP! It is very important that your HVAC system is serviced two times a year. This should be done in Fall and Spring to prepare it for the extreme months.

Each spring, try cleaning the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan. First, the power should be turned off so things don’t move as you work. Then, remove the grill, then remove the blades and begin the cleaning process of the blades and the unit.

TIP! It is always a good idea to swap out single pane windows for double pane ones. Windows that are double pane keep the cool air in and can greatly reduce the amount of time your air conditioner will need to run.

As you notice the tress begin to lose their leaves, keep an eye on your outdoor condenser unit. Frequently clean the fan grill when trees are shedding leaves. When the fan becomes obstructed, you will lose out on quality air.

TIP! To help keep your energy costs down, have your heating and cooling system serviced at least once a year. When they come out for a service visit, expect inspections of freon levels and the motor, and they will oil all the moving parts.

Check to determine if the fan condenser on your HVAC system is equipped with oil ports, and if it is, be sure to lubricate every year. Most of these ports have some sort of protective cap covering them. Chose SAE 20 oil, which has been proven to be the most effective.

Boost energy efficiency by putting your condenser unit in the shade. This will ensure cool air is sucked in, meaning less cooling must be done by the unit.

TIP! Use an online sizing calculator to help you calculate the proper size of the air conditioning unit you should purchase. If you make the mistake of purchasing a unit that is too large, it will not cool efficiently.

A home’s HVAC system is the key to ambient comfort. If you don’t try to care for it on an ongoing basis, the system can break and cause you frustration. Make sure that you do not let this happen.
