Set realistic goals when you schedule you work and classes. Avoid taking classes too early in the morning if you are unable to follow a strict schedule. Choose classes that will allow you to follow a schedule you can enjoy.
If you’re having troubles getting good grades, check if your school offers courses on study skills. A lot of students think that their high grades with little effort from high school will carry over and might not know how they should study for college classes. These courses may help you learn how to pass your class.
Double check that you have all of the required materials when it is time to take your exams. Forgetting things such as a calculator during a big math test could place you at a big disadvantage. The teachers often don’t lend items out, so you have to bring everything with you.
Don’t forget to exercise in college. Consider joining a gym. Both are great ways to get exercise and to meet new people. You can also meet friends with whom you can go to the gym, thereby expanding your social network.
If you have a test, be sure to eat breakfast that morning. Grab fruit and yogurt to be eaten on the go if you must. It can be distracting if you are hungry during class. Getting something to eat before a test will help you to keep your energy level up and make it easier to focus on the work at hand.
The dreaded freshman 15 (which can easily expand to become the freshman 20) is a lot easier to avoid if you do what you can to limit your carbohydrate intake. Refrain from poor quality snacks or fast food. Turn to fresh veggies and fruits in order to keep yourself healthy and energized. Avoid eating too much protein since it could cause health issues.
