Nothing is worse than your HVAC systems going out on a bitterly cold day or a sweltering hot day. Learning as much as possible about HVAC before you need help is the best way to locate the right company to repair old equipment or install new. Read on to do that.
Clean your fan and coils when the weather begins to warm. Always shut off all power to your unit for any work beyond superficial cleaning. Clean the outdoor condenser as well.
If your condenser units are outisde, make sure any debris is cleaned from them regularly. You don’t know when things are going to pile up, like right after it’s windy or rains, and that can ruin your system. It can get overheated, which will cause problems with the whole system.
Each spring it’s time to clean the inside of your condenser unit, including the fan and the sensitive coil. Turn it off first so you don’t get hurt or break something. Then, remove the grill, then remove the blades and begin the cleaning process of the blades and the unit.
Avoid showering your outdoor unit with grass clippings when you mow the lawn. Aim your grass cuttings in a direction away from your unit. The same goes for blowing leaves, so always be careful if you are moving debris near your HVAC devices.
If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. A rubber or metal cap is typically placed over such ports. Choose a SAE 20 oil whch is lightweight and non-detergent and place 10 drops or less into each port, ensuring it doesn’t overfill.
Knowing that your HVAC system needs to be repaired or replaced can be worrisome. But, with the right tips, you will know how to find a professional you can trust. Hopefully you are now prepared to tackle any issue that may come up with your HVAC system.
